Golden Retrievers Get First Peek at WEC!
A “soft opening” has been scheduled at the World Equestrian Center, and it will be for another species of 4 legged animals – the 2020 Golden Retriever Club of America National Specialty event will be held from October 19th-22nd, 2020. We can think of no better way to unveil the new WEC to our community than through this lovable breed!
The announcement came last Wednesday at a jam packed Ocala/Marion County Chamber & Economic Partnership’s (CEP) meeting, where many local residents and business people had heard whispers of an event in 2020. The WEC had been reaching out to area hotels to see if there would be room availability for over 900 out-of-towners, sparking rumors of a soft opening.
This is a brilliant use of the facility, giving our region and visiting tourists insight into the magnitude this expansive equestrian facility, which will have a broad and positive economic impact on Marion County. Below is key quotes from Carl Kauffman (WEC’s Director of Sales and Marketing) from an excerpt via the recent article in the Ocala Star Banner:
‘The WEC is the centerpiece of an upscale residential community planned for nearly 4,000 acres west of County Road 225A, between U.S. 27 and State Road 40. Roberts’ team has planned 2,400 homes, including estate homes and condominiums. There are plans for retail and commercial space, as well as room for 200 recreational vehicle spaces.
“We estimate 300 to 500 jobs, ranging throughout the year, just for the World Equestrian Center alone,” Kaufmann said. “It will have an enormous impact on the area.”
Kaufmann said the facility will drive business throughout Ocala and Marion County, including gas stations, motels, equine sports industries and other services.
World Equestrian Center events will “define what tourism becomes in Marion County and, the way I look at it, in the State of Florida,” Kaufmann noted.
